Walk about lens

looking for anew lens.
i want something which will be good for walking around taking general pics of my kids and other things that take my fancy, as at the moment im forever swapping lenses and get worried i may get some dirt or something in the camera

ive found this lens, does anyone have any experience of it and would it be suitable for what i want, i could probably raise abit more cash for a better lens if needed

Dont worry to much about getting dirt into a camera,but walk around lens can be very useful just brought one for mine,the only thing i have found is when the light drop you need to push up your iso,if your camera can handle high iso no problems

I have the Canon version of that lens, not bad at all for general snaps especially if stopped down to f8, here's a useful review for more info,

Hi,

there are a few threads on here re these "all in one" lenses - have a quick search. Tends to be a general opinion of they are okay, but you are compromising...

Personally, I don't like them, I feel the advantage (which I can appreciate) it gives isn't enough with the potential of loss of quality from it. From a Canon point of view, the 18-55IS and 55-250IS lenses are good (the 55-250IS is a belter) and give you the focal range and both lenses weigh very little, so no issues with carrying them - but you still need to swap when required. I would presume Nikon would do something similar...

I really wouldn't worry too much about swapping lenses - just make sure you are down wind and have the body pointing downhill and swap as quick as you can if you really want to minimise the risk...
