I'm looking to add a walkabout lens for when I don't want to take my bag.
I've been thinking of a 28-105 as I rarely use the very wide end and this lens seems to get a good write up.

I'd like a lens a bit longer than 105 but don't like what I've read about the 18-200mm as I am something of a pixel peeper.

The lens is to go on my D300 and will comlement a 17-55, 70-200 and a 300prime, all f2.8's i.e.BIG.

any suggestions what to look for; or perhaps what to avoid?

Give this a little bump as I am interested in a new walk about lens mainly to take on holiday was thinking about this but want it to take family photos as well

Looks a very nice lens looked at the nearest canon 17-85 so will concider that as well
