Walking my dog Skye

Friday 14th November

It was early... and snowing when we left home on the Moray riviera but Kinlochewe was dry and bright. So we wandered off to Loch Fada.

We met Dex, short for Dexter, and his dad on the track to the Heights and walked the rest of the day together.

Tuesday 25th November

We had a stroll round the Loch Clair and Loch Coulin circuit. It wasn't my initial thoughts on destination but as we neared Kinlochewe I could see the Torridon tops were clear and snowy so we kind of veered down the Glen to see if we could park up okay.

Sunday 30th November

We had a stroll along the track from the Red Hut. Frosty and very icy with verglas on everything.

I was playing with the Sony A7c and a couple of manual focus lenses: Voigtlander Ultron 35mm and an old Leica Tele-Elmarit 90mm, and remembered why I like taking photos even if the results are just snaps. It's the fun and joy, dammit.

Thanks. Yeah the 500 is great but do get off the beaten track, both in terms of getting out the car parks and the rest of the Highlands.
 
Thanks all for liking and commenting through the year, it's been much appreciated.

So according to my watch, which records my gps tracks. I've done:

76 walks
Distance 697km
Spent 246 hours doing them
Burnt 56000 calories (presumably kilocalories)
Total ascent: 25km
Max single walk: 31km.
And an untold number of photos!


Occasionally I completely forgot to record a track, and lately didn't even bother getting my camera out as it was too wet and miserable. So that probably makes it all 'close enough'.

Taking photos for this project has provided a focus during 2025 which I've enjoyed and frankly I'm amazed it's not descended into a chore like most things do with me. I think that's been helped by going for a walk anyway, so I might as well carry a camera. And importantly there's no set schedule. I also like that I've taken more photos of Skye for it than I have of all our previous dogs (4 of them) put together!

Photography wise I hoped my photos would improve through the year, but it has been hard to remember composition techniques when my brain is completely focusing on putting one foot in front of the other and otherwise blank! Anyway, I'll let you be the judge of that. One thing I noticed is I prefer taking photos with my Sony A7c and a manual focus lens, than the considerably lighter and smaller Sony RX100-m7. So continuing the project I'll endeavour to take the A7c more often and especially into the remote areas I want to visit.
 
Tuesday 6th January

I didn't want to go further west than Contin due to the weather, so we had another walk round the woods. Only us in the car park, saw no-one in the woods, and there'd been more snowfall. No sun at all but raining or snowing occasionally hard.
