We walked in to Loch na Sealga from Gruinard Bridge. A new place for us and a bit of an explore to scout out the way to the Beinn Dearg Mor and Bheag Corbetts.

We started early, very early... We had a half-day weather window so to make the most of it we got up and walking for 5:30am.

It's getting 'traditional' for a snap of Beinn Eighe at the start of the walk to Lochan Fada.

Wednesday 27th May

It wasn't what I'd had planned but as a plan B it worked really well. We started at the walkers car park at Incheril and walked towards Loch Maree. We managed to get past some coos and calves without much hassle (which were described by another walker who walked straight through the group as 'a bit feisty'!). Which kind of made heading towards Letterewe and returning the same way less attractive. On my wish list for a while has been going through Gleann Bianasdail to our favourite Lochan Fada just to see what it's like. It's an obvious circular of around 15 miles.

Dropping down to the outflow of Lochan Fada into Gleann Bianasdail. The ford here is pretty dodgy with slippery rocks and quite deep.
In spate it would be dangerous to even think about attempting to cross.

And then it was the 7 mile walk-out. Chatted to a few Cape Wrath walkers as well as munro baggers.
 
Monday 8th June

It wasn't wet as such, just sunshine and showers, with a side order of wind. We walked the Loch a' Bhraoin track to the bothy and back. 4.5 miles each way. I was glad I hadn't set my sights on a hill as the wind would have been way too much.

The estate cottage in front of the bothy. There's an old sheepfold out there amongst the grass and bog. Also hiding behind the cottage on the other side of the river, and loch, were a bunch of cattle, with calves. I thought I'd seen footprints on the track walking in.

We didn't hang about at the bothy long as it was closed, midgy and I didn't fancy staying about to see if the coos came back over the river towards us.

Taken a couple of seconds before a coo and calf came over that slight brow on the track so we beat a hasty divert to the left onto the peat bog. It wasn't too bad but we still got wet feet. So now we knew, they were a new bunch of coos. Turns out the new owners of the estate: Scottish Wildlife Trust use cattle as conservation grazers.

I love seeing the cattle out in the countryside, perhaps here especially as that flat area at the head of the loch obviously had old settlements and used for agriculture. But it means another walk is curtailed. Often the stress of 'will I get past the cattle safely, where are they?', etc, will be enough for me to just go somewhere else. There's coos at Corrie Hallie - starting point for Shenavall, and on the way towards Slioch. And now here. Hmmm, I wonder where I can get some of their beef?!

I wouldn't say my fitness is up to much these days. But, yeah, it's hard work as it's so rough. I was very glad of my walking-poles on the way back!

How did my Dog get up there?
 
Tuesday 23rd June

Decided to go up Fionn Bheinn above Achnasheen. It's a munro - 933 metres and has a reputation for being boggy. It lived up to that.

... and of course that way was a squelch fest too, but Skye doesn't mind. We did go to Loch a' Chroisg for a paddle to try and get some of the peat off her but she's still muddy.

Great set, Beth.Impressive munroes. Not many have walks like that to go on. Skye must be the most photographed dog..ever :) I'm sure she poses..Lol.

I've just bought two bottles of Smidge anti-midge spray for our stay at Aultbea, Loch Ewe next week.We never gave it a thought..July..high season Ugh...

The house is on the loch side. A week there and then to Southerness, Solway Firth.
 
Smidge is good stuff, with a bit of luck you'll have a breeze and the wee beasties will stay in bed. Lol! Sometimes you have to laugh or they drive you mad. Have fun.

Sometimes Skye will pose, but when she wants she'll just refuse like a toddler who's just learnt "no!".
