ive just come back form a weekend away , other people must have come across this problem and i want to know how other solve it .Went on a long walking weekend with my rucksack and camera, now i like to have my camera to hand and dont want to forever stop - take camera out of bag - put it back etc , so ive got a blackrapid strap - BRILLIANT by the way except for one small point - you cant use it AND a rucksack... how do you all manage ? or is there a system that can clip to a rucksack and hold the camera like the blackrapid strap system ?
 
Thats one of the reasons i went to an optech sling strap, i had an RS7 and it was too bulky under a rucksack.

Not a BR but with my Optech Sling I can. I put the camera on 1st then my back pack and it works just as well as with out a back pack. I guess the only issue with that with the BR is bulk but unless your back pack weights masses you'd be ok.
 
I use the OpTech Dual Harness - and this is fine under a backpack (and coat, if the weather's looking a bit iffy :) )

I think Op-Tech also do a specific strap that clips onto the straps of a backpack.
 
Personally, I've never had a problem with using a rucksack and my RS7. I guess that might be due to me never having much in the rucksack so it's quite light, and doesn't weigh down on the strap and stop it from moving.
 
sorry my mistake it was an RS5 i had, with the extra pocket on it made it too bulky.
 
Likewise I've had a rucksack together with my RS7, not really an issue. But I can imagine some might find it a bit irritating.
 
yup it is very much so - the belt wont 'slide' up and down and gets caught - even with a small rucksack , perhaps i will try the other slings mentioned thanks all ;)
 
I just use the normal strap, over one shoulder but passing under the sternum strap so that the camera won't go too far if it falls off my shoulder. I've also got an elastic loop attached to the hip belt that can go over the lens to hold the body tight to my belt, so that it won't get bashed on rocks when I'm scrambling.
 
Does your rucksack/camera backpack have a decent hand grip on the top? If so:

1 x 60cm climbing sling
2 x mini carabiners
1 x Quick release plate


assemble and attach.

About £15 in total.

The Belt doesn't slide, the camera slides up the belt.

Have you got both plastic clips so they are stopping the camera moving up the belt? This is only for when you want the camera not to swing. Most of the time, I have one clipped so it stops the camera moving too far back and the other right at the top of the strap which allows free movement of the camera without the strap moving on my body.

I, too, have no problems with using it with a rucksack.

original strap and just put a crab through one of the D loops on your backpack, and clip the strap through it. Simple :)

I don't usually bother though, and just sling it over a shoulder if I've got a backpack on.
 
I've used the blackrapid and rucksack together, maybe I'm just weird. I've also used the blackrapid under my rain coat or other jacket. I have also used it in the conventional manner in case you were wondering... If you put the blackrapid on before the back pack you should not have an issue and retain the benefits.

just what i was going to say, always use it this way - your strap may be different as it has the 'pockets' on it, are they not removable?

Likewise, I went to a fort holy communion the other week and had mine underneath my suit jacket. Nice and discreet, hands free and ready for some fantastic candids

That's exactly what I do; I have a carabiner attached to the top handle of each of my camera bags, whichever one I pick-up I just slot the camera strap into it and off I go.
 
I use mine all the time...

Strap on first, rucksack afterwards...

Works perfectly...

+1 :) just tuck the strap under your backpack strap, holds it perfectly securely.

I worried about whether it would work with a backpack, but the rucksack straps don't come anywhere near the camera strap

If anything, the rucksack actually helps because it stops the quick strap moving around at all like it can sometimes do on it's own.
