Want full frame, do I need? Should I get?

Currently I'm using a canon 50d. But I keep thinking I would like to go full frame. I reckon that by selling my 50d as well as the lenses which would not work on full frame (tamron 17-50 and sigma 10-20) I could scrape together enough for a 5d classic and a sigma 24-70. Currently I also have a sigma 105 macro, canon 50mm mk1 and have funds for a canon 70-200 f4. Most of the shots I take apart from family are macro and landscape so I would only be losing out on the UWA.
Should I make the change? I know I don't need to and the equipment I have outperforms anything I can do. But I feel I may benefit. My only concern in changing is having an older body than I have at the moment.
Thoughts and opinions welcome.
 
You really need to have a firm idea of in what way full frame will benefit you. It could be better high ISO performance if you do a lot of low light work or maybe better dynamic range, smoother tonality or better resolution for landscapes. However, bear in mind that a classic 5D is getting long in the tooth and doesn't perform on a par with current full frame models, although it is still a good camera. But so is your 50D and changing to full frame won't automatically guarantee you better results. In fact, just changing on a whim will probably lead to disappointment. :)
 
I had a 50D and went full frame with a 5D2 and it was worth EVERY penny spent - the differance in IQ is night and day............low iso high iso, dynamic range, its ability to meter a scene, the feel of the output it is just a stunning camera,

Would love to get a mk2 but funds say no.

I think my answer is use what I have, use it more. Then when I feel the equipment is limiting me, still continue to use it. Then buy a used 5D mk2 for £500 :thumbs:

Good decision. If you have spare cash at the moment why not spend it on a course or a workshop instead? I guarantee it will improve your photography more than a new camera. :)
 
If you always find yourself, stay on a crop sensor. Ummm, reverse can be said if you always want a wider angle. I guess this is all fairly obvious however :D

EDIT: I found myself wanting a D700 until I realised I like as much reach as I can lay my hands on. Then I wanted a D300 until I got to play with it for a day and realised how heavy it was!
