Hello, just after some quick advice. I have a Sony A200 and mainly shoot static and moving cars.

I use the utility lens (that came with the camera) and have my 50mm lens for other shots of the cars.

I am after a wide angled lens that would add something different to my pics, with some lens distortion to give some good effects of the cars.

Would this be any good?

Tamron SP 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 Di II for Sony

What would be the advantages of having this lens?

Can anyone suggest anything else that would be worthwhile?

thanks for the help, really appreciate it :)

do you really want distortion?
If so maybe have a look for a fisheye.

The Tamron 10-24 trades extra range for IQ

Other potential wides
Tamron 11-18
Sony 11-18 (based on the above)
Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6
Sigma 10-20 f3.5 HSM
Sigma 12-24
Sigma 8-16
Tokina 11-16 f2.8

the last 2 are probably the 2 best

What do you mean by distortion?

Do you mean the crazy angle of view? If so, that's not distortion!

I would opt for the Sigma 10-20mm, I have one and its a cracking lens and well suited to the type of shot you indicated

the 8-16mm is more of a semi fisheye, that also may be what youre looking for

cool. do you have any links of a good site to buy it from? I normally buy from jessops but dont think they have it.

So im guessing the 8-16mm is a "wider angle" lens than the one I linked to?

What are the other uses/advantages of the wide angle?

thanks for the help :)

no not the viewing angle, something like this...

not meaning the processing just the perspective. this would be achieved by using a wide angled lens would it not?

That is the viewing angle attained by having such a wide field of view, it's not distortion!
