warranty

I ordered a camera for christmas off of the internet from a uk store and it arrived with the warranty certificate blank. I just wondered if the retailer hasn't filled it in will it still be valid? I have the receipt as well so would I need to send that away if, in future, I had any problems?

I guess it depends on the manufacturer but I guess most let you register online (Nikon certainly do) and you have a receipt from the shop.
