watching movies on xp

right i can not play any movies on my works xp machine ie dvd movies

it says codec not installed or not compatible ?

so i installed the original codec driver which come with the motherboard and still no joy

help please lol

Sounds like you need to download one of the following:

Klite codec pack
Divx codec pack
VLC player

You will find them on the web easily enough, they are free and are easy to install.

i just posted the same problem today... after a couple of weeks trying every codec possible and all the players reccomended...vlc player did the trick

VLC and Media Player Classic are both excellent Media Players.

However I will just put my BOFH hat on and say you shouldn't be installing stuff on your work computer. And if you don't have right privilages it might not work.

i'll 2nd that, VLC will do the trick fine.

but you may well be asked why you have a media player on your machine if it wasn't installed by your IT dept and that might be tricky to answer.

Just imho but it happens were i work, i know, as i have to ask the questions

i run a shop and on my dinner i dont go out or have a dedicated lunchtime i am happy with that

i just want to watch some tutorials / fishing etc during my dinner time as such

plus it is parents buisness so i can get away with it
