So, how expensive are the slide projectors? Whats the best used shop to buy them? Anything to be aware of

Hi there. The world is your oyster, By that I mean that slide projectors are little used now and most camera outlets who sell second hand are only too willing to get rid. I am even seeing them in charity shops along with decent screens.
You should get a bargain as long as it's 35mm you are after.

yup 35mm Peter. If you or anyone else locate one, please let me know

BTW, what about the bulbs. Are they standard rating, type mount etc, or different for each make like the lens mounts

I know of someone that has a Leica slide projector and may be willing to sell it as they are looking for a digital projector at the moment. It is only a couple of years old, however, being Leica, was £700 new! I can ask if they are looking to sell and get more details if you want?
I understand that it could be expensive but I can get more details if you like.

Stu, a Leica is going to be expensive...so I'll pass.

Thanks for your kind offer. I am sure you would have used the Buy and Sell part of the forum if we were to eventually do a deal, as is required by the forum rules.....

Just had a look at ffordes site as they have a Projector bit in there Used section.

So question is how deep are you pockets?

They range from £60 to £1700 but I think that one is for 6x7 slides :)

Looking at them the Reflecta range were good for a budget (used to sell them) range, they are very plastic in there construction but if all you are doing is using them at home then they should be fine.

ah thanks....didn't think of looking at ffordes...

Whats about the bulbs Nick? are they universal bulbs? Are they still available?

I am going to buy for ( infrequent) home viewing....

Is 30/40 £ do-able?

Don't know to be honest, I don't see why not but it may take a bit of searching. If your using it at home then the bulbs can last for a very long time.

You should be able to, flea bay, charity shops, car boot sales, don't see why you could get one for that price.
Or keep trawling the Used shops online. :D

:plus1:
I agree the above is a pretty good projector.
Also http://www.thedigitalcamerashop.co.uk seem to have a good stock, even I was surprised.

Things to look out for:
  • Either carousel which can take a large number of slides so you aren't messing about swapping things during your showing OR
  • Ability to handle different types of slide trays
  • Doesn't have bulbs that are hard to find or so specialist they would be costly
  • Either an Infra Red remote so that you don't have to be sat with the projector during a slide show, or at least one with a long enough remote lead
  • Not essential but I found it useful to have a pointer
  • Has a means of easily lifting up the slide that is currently being viewed, useful if you have some the wrong way round or back to front and you just want to sort out the slide

Hope this helps

Good luck

ebay?

I saw a v nice one for 48quid on ebay for 6x6 slides, v nearly bought but I'm rediverting funds so didn't

Thanks everyone for all the inputs. Any views on this slide projector?

Have not had experience of this projector, but I did notice that this item went through e-bay unsold at .99p earlier, so the current price does not look attractive. New lamps model DNE are available on e-bay at around £10.

PS, Lamp model would need to be checked. May very well be a standard halogen 24v/150w which are only around £4

closure on this one. Got a Gnome projector today; so the visit to Arundel was a success

I picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago at a car boot sale.
Cabin

Wasn't holding out much hope, but worked fine and also came with the original instructions and a leather case. The bloke wasn't sure if it was working so it cost me the princely sum of £1.(y)

Bargain!
