You can create an image and use it as an overlay or just use text??

Try faststone but there are plenty others out there ;)

Phil.

I generally do it in photoshop

Basically I generate a bulk action (akas droplet) for applying my watermark then set it running on a folder of images and just forget about it.

In terms of the actual watermark I used to use my website address (i'm currently website less) but you could use any text , or graphic - apply it as a layer, reduce opacity to about 30%, then flatten and save as duplicate

(the only downside of bulk actions is you have to have the watermark in the same place everytime - thats not a big deal if you want to smack it into the centre of the image, but if you want more sensitive placement then you have to do it manually as part of the workflow. )

see here

by the way in addition to visual watermarks its also worth inserting your copyright info into the exif data - numerous times lairy image rippers clone or crop out an copyright but forget to strip the exif

similar here except I created the image in photoshop elements and set it in Aperture and it applies it on export (but only on certain export settings that I use for specifically for web uploads)

I created mine in photoshop but then get lightroom to apply it to my exported images. I found that lightroom's watermark software a little limited in terms of creativity hence why I used photoshop but lightroom is definitely the easiest way to apply it to multiple images.

I just used my name on a transparent background in photoshop, set it to about 75% transparency and saved it as a PSD. Then in the lightroom watermark options set it to use that PSD file. I have one in white and one in black and then on export choose all the photos that need the white one and export them first, then choose the ones which need the black watermark and export those.

I also use LR 4 and Aperture. In LR4 watermaring is easy I have now found, but wonder if there is anyway to transfer and use the same watermark in Aperture.

In aperture you have to have your image created already & you can set it in Preferences. I did download a plug in once but it didn't work

niki,

what software do you have for post processing....... once we know that will be better placed to advise.

Some people on here, have a pretty good watermark.... one that springs to mind ~(in my opinion) is Colin ("Hacker") - with his wedding photos.

A lot of people just use a little bit of white text - which with the Content Aware filter in Cs6 Beta, you can get rid of in 2 seconds! - i.e. you might as well not bother....

Bit of a trade off on logo visibility v photo quality.. i.e. at times, a logo can dominate the photo too much....

IN LR4 (& 3) you can apply a saved image as the watermark on export. So I guess you could use the same for both
