Just contemplating buying a waterproof camera I can use this year for trips out on the kayak and a bit of snorkelling on holiday etc. I've no idea about waterproof cameras and what sort of image quality/features etc to expect. Not really thought of budget, nothing too over the top as it's only going to see occasional use I suppose.

For snorkelling depth, something like the Canon D30 would do fine. I have its predecessor (D20) and have a few prints at A3+ from it which look great. Waterproof down to as far as I can comfortably go. Less fiddly (and, more importantly, more waterproof!) than the Olympus thing I had before.
 
I've been experimenting with a GoPro as a camera; the Hero 4 Silver (the one with a screen).
Utterly waterproof, small, robust and the image quality is surprisingly good considering it is primarily meant for video.
Depends what your budget is though....

I have a D20 and I totally concur with this.

Thanks for the offer David but for the worst reason I'm afraid I couldn't possibly take that as my wife will be using it as well and she detests red.....I know but I'm not going to argue:banghead:

no worries Gary I liked the red as its easy viewable underwater... they come in other colours so do put the model on your consideration list though as its a corking camera IMO..
