Waterproof?

Hi - newbie to the world of photography and learning every day, thanks to the guys and gals on this forum.

I have a Nikon D7000 and a few Nikon lenses such as 28-200 and 55-300 along with a Tamron macro.

This may seem a daft question but is this equipment capable of withstanding exposure to rain? I was out at the weekend and due to a sudden downpour, got caught out in the wet. The camera and lens, still function OK but have I been fortunate or is it OK to use in the rain?

the body is weather sealed, the lenses are not, even know nikon tell me all the lenses are fine to use in light rain but others are more weather sealed and have a seal around the mount.
use in light rain should be ok, but still worth getting a rain cover.

Nikon pro gear is showerproof - not sure about yours - maybe look at the NIKON website?
