Hi guys

I'm hoping to try out my 1D3 and 300 2.8IS combo tomorrow at a Junior Rugby Semi Final.

Now the weather has been really unpredictable here in Leeds today and it got me thinking about my gear should it rain tomorrow. Now I know this combination is rated as weather proof, but just how good is that weatherproofing?

I've always been one to put my camera in my bag at the first drop of rain so sitting in the rain with my expensive equipment doesn't come naturally to me lol.

You should be fine. I've had weatherproof setups out in hail, snow, dust storms, -40's and torrential rain with no issues. If its really cold leave your equipment in the porch or a slightly warmer than outside temperature room / porch before brining it in the house. It will condensate and may cause the glass to fog up. Same applies when taking it out of the car to the shoot.

I don't know about Canons but I have seen videos on the 'tube of people giving their Olympus kit a full shower...

I've never had the privilege of owning a 1 series camera, but the 300mm 2.8 should be fully weatherproof, though I always use mine with a Think Tank Hydrophobia rain cover just in case.

The 1D should be weatherproof with the amount of seals it has but if I had one, I'd air on the side of caution and still use my rain cover

It will be 70 in the shade tomorow!
