I have just had my renewal due for my website which is with streamline.net.

i have been with them for about 4 years now. It was £20something a year last time and now its suddenly £40something.

Does anyone know if I can start somewhere else instead cheaper and just take over everything I have to the new server?

Any suggestions of a good cheaper one??

I suppose i will lose my domain name of janicehobbs.com but i think janicehobbs.co.uk is free.

any help would be appreciated,

depends what your getting for your money now.. I presume domain AND hosting? try www.123-reg.co.uk I have been with them a few yrs and they dont mess you about.. But I have my own hosting..
 
You can move hosting as often as you like. You can also keep your domain name. You can either keep the domain name with the registrar you currently use and point the nameservers at your new hosting account OR you can transfer your domain to another registrar if you'd prefer to keep your domain and hosting renewals with the same company.

My company does hosting and domains - we aren't the cheapest in the country but you pay for a more personal customer service as opposed to the unhelpful ticketing systems of cheaper hosts. www.deanzod.co.uk

I've been very happy with Vidahost. I pay £29 +vat a year for hosting. I think they have increased the prices this year, but kept the old prices for existing customers.

I suppose there is not much in it then once youve added vat, I have just managed to persuade my husband that its worth it!! ;)

Not much I guess. New Vidahost accounts are now £34/yr + vat. So that works out at circa £40.00. It's a recession - everyone jacks up their prices in a recession. Strange but true...

I signed up earlier today with Vidahost after seeing someone recommend them on here. I've been thinking about putting together a site for a while now and after a bit of searching, they seemed the right choice.

They have quick response times for customer support too, very helpful and friendly people it would seem (had problem with payment, quickly sorted). I'm also on the Starter package:
- £29 annually (£34 inc VAT)
- 2GB space
- 25GB data transfer
- free uk domain name for first year (they can transfer domains too)
