Website Questions (Portfolio etc)

Looking at rebuilding my website, and was just wondering how to go about the galleries.

Originally I was thinking along the lines of; Portraits, Landscapes and Misc - but that got me thinking, as I generally want to only put my BETTER work on the website and the rest on FlickR, should I possibly make it Portfolio instead? I'm going to be starting some street projects, so it'll get a lot more portraits however it might not be my best portraits. The reason for asking is that I have a fairly weak lineup of Portraits currently, the good ones I have are very few, compared to say Landscapes for example.

What should I do, create it as Portraits, Landscapes and Misc, then just gradually add to the galleries, or say 'Coming Soon' for the ones with the fewest images. Or do I go along the lines of Street and Portfolio, to keep it simple?

Sorry if this is a bit hard to understand, been attempting to code the website :cuckoo:

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd just put the best work on your website, and everything else on Flickr. If you're paying good money to have a website, then might as well use it to showcase your best work. I'd also keep it to just one subject, but hey that's just an opinion.

I wouldn't bother with a 'coming soon', unless you're going to be updating regularly and your work is so compelling that you're expecting people to come back regularly. Google Analytics tells me that 85% of my visit are new, and I update my site regularly with new content, although it ain't exactly compelling stuff!

Is the website just for a hobby or is it to sell yourself as a photographer or to sell your work?

At the moment it's a hobby, but hoping at a later date to update towards being able to do more paid work.

The reason for the coming soon is that there won't be much content added for possibly a few weeks after the design. By this weekend there could be more (if the website is even done by then!).

Agreed with the FlickR thing, definitely going to be more strict. It seems a majority of websites with a 'Portfolio' link, are all a mixed bunch - guess thats the next stepping stone, whether to mix it up. I guess I could mix it up, and once I have decent content for a few subjects, I could separate them?
