Website relaunch - Feedback wanted!

Hi all,

I have just relaunched my website (http://www.stephenwalford.co.uk) having redesigned it from scratch.

From some recommendations and comments on here from a previous thread, I wanted to reduce the wasted space on the site and really focus on the images.

Any feedback/ comments/ critiques would be greatly appreciated.

I really like this generally. It feels very slick and flash-like without the awkwardness of flash.

Some elements feel a bit clunky though. For example, when you click a navigation link (which are a bit small tbh) the page instantly changes, but on loading the content you smoothly introduce it. It would be nice if you could quickly scroll out the current content before changing pages just to keep everything consistent.

Other than that, I'd move the hide/show button at the top with a more logical looking button related to the box that will be shrunk.
 
for me, the rollover links are a little bit off, they seem to be higher than the words. the up/down arrows to expand/collapse the menu should have some context...to me it looks like part of the template.

Also, not sure what the 2 white box are in the top left ?

BUT, i do like the way the image displays as the background :thumbs:

I definitely need to fix the rollover links, I didn't notice the issue with this when I was testing.

I'm not sure what white boxes you are referring to in the top left?

They are now gone :)

They were actually part of the banner, which was a crop of a photo. To be honest, I didn't like it either, so I have now gone for one colour. May improve the banner at somepoint.

I have made some adjustments. The galleries now have a scroll bar so you can see all the images (which you couldn't before).

I am still having issues with the navigation links, and the roll over link being slight out of alignment. This seems to be browser specific (the site works fine in Safari). I'm getting some help from a Rapidweaver expert on this :)

Any other comments?

I don't think in your above mention of scrolling you meant what I am about to say, which is why I am raising it!!..

When I view a portrait photo, the photo goes off screen and there is no way of scrolling down to see the bottom of the photo.

Or actually, it might be the full photo but there isn't any padding or margins below is, so the photo sits at the very bottom of the browser, and that looks akward to me!

Using FF 3.6.13 btw! :)

Hi Steve,

I like it. I would have kept the content area black (with the continued dropped opacity) with the white text. Not a fan of the black on grey - hard of sight may have an issue with that aswell.

Also, the menu text seems to change font size depending on page I'm on. Home page looks 12/13px once i click on galleries etc it shrinks right down to what might be 9px and it doesn't look too great.

Love the big images and backgrounds and the jquery to allow hiding of the content areas. Very nice. I'm all for photography sites which don't use flash! Good stuff

Thanks for the comments MindofMel. I'll have a look at the colour of the text box, I agree it would be better white. And yes the text size does change - again easy to change :) It's one of those things where if you look at something for too long you miss the tiny details!

Yes, flash sites annoy me a lot which is why I went down this route. I think it is quite effective :)
