Website step up help

Hi

I currently use Smugmug, website is www.freddieridge.com (in my sig).
I like the website but would like to set one up with a bit more customisation, to make it a bit cleaner and with the potential to sell from it (though this is not a necessity for now).

I have had a look at the website sticky and think maybe one of the flash solutions or Joomla will be the best. I don't mind learning some web design.

Can someone advise which would suit my needs? Probably haven't given enough information so let me know if not!

Avoid flash, it's not good for a whole site (although can be used in parts for flashy slideshows and the like)

Perhaps take a look at Wordpress, that's quite handy with lots of free & paid for templates out there, all of which can be customised if you know what you're doing

Have you experimented with all the customisation that smugmug offers? I thought you could create just about any look you could think of if you knew a bit of css...

Agreed. Whole sites developed in Flash really limit their compatibility. I used maintain one and had so many comments from people saying it didn't work on their machine. "Pools of flashiness" developed in Flash or Silverlight are fine as long as you properly handle users who don't have the proper browser capabilities. This usually means developing a dumbed down HTML version of everything to run alongside Flash enabled content though.
