this is the issue. If you are in a dark church, at the limit of your kit, being forced to shoot at 1.4, you are on a hiding to nothing. It is at this point you want a tripod / monopod, and/or a body that has better higher ISO performance, and still subjects
When you are at the limits, a razor thin DOF, just adds to your problems
Nikon D600 or D700 with D7000 for backup (I'd probably choose the D600 since the controls are laid out pretty much identically to the D7000)
Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8
Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 or 80-200mm f/2.8
Nikon 18-200mm on the D7000
