Morning all.

Thought I'd use the word 'Wedding' in the title - bound to fire someone up ;)

Anyway, I've got my second wedding at the start of Sept. I already own a Sigma 24-70 2.8, but was thinking about hiring a Canon equivilant for the day. If the results are favourable then I'll potentially buy one. Is the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM my only choice? I take it that bit of glass has been around for a while? Is there a replacement due?

Said lens will be bolted onto a 5DII.

Cheers.

Dav

I've had a Canon 24-70 for a couple of months and now I've got used to it I'm stunned with the IQ from it, having previously had sigma 24-70 f2.8 and a couple of canon 24-105s.
Who knows if a mkII is on the way there have been rumours of that for donkeys years ;)

Hi Paul that's really useful info.

i have the 24-70 sitting permanently on one of my 5DMKII's. Its the bread and butter lens for almost all Canon wedding togs. Its quite a bit more than the sigma, which I have never used. But the AF, USM and FTM are a joy to have. Its also extremely sharp. Its very useable at 2.8 as well.

agree with all comments

it's probably on my 1D 80-90% of the time, closely followed by the 70-200 2.8

sharper than a sharp thing

hire it for the week before, so you can evaluate/learn it properly. dont worry about the replacements inthe pipeline, its a fine lens

Thanks chaps.

I'm also tempted to hire a 70-200 L IS II to compare it to my Sigma 70-200. What's the difference with the MKII lens to the MK1?

Richard - how's your 'Idiot tolerance level today' :)

It's at its normal level - lol

Just recieved an e-mail from a website designer which according to hos website can do X, Y,Z and A, B and C..

"can you fix the PHP for the category boxes on the front of my website, I think i broke something"

Thanks chaps.

:gag: I just saw the price of the Mki 70-200 :exit:

Got to say the mkII must be stunning because I absolutely love my mkI and most reviews rate the mkII as much better.
Again having had Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and canon 70-200 f4 I reckon the 70-200 f2.8 IS IQ is wonderful :D

I so wish I'd gone straight to a Canon 70-200 rather than a Sigma. Ho hum - when I do upgrade the Sigma will be a nice backup. :(
