Hi,

After going for the Nikon d700 i am now looking for a good wedding lens, i currently have the 18-200mm f4.5 but of course need something for inside the church, i have been looking at the 50mm f1.8 but as i am on a spending spree and don't wish to lay anymore out for a while (fingers Crossed), i wanted to know if there was a better option.

Id rather your opinions then the sales person in the shop.

Well, you wont find a better lens for your money than a 50mm f/1.8.

Buy used if your looking to save a few quid, although not expensive new.
 
The 18-200 is a DX lens designed for crop cameras so not geared up for the D700, that being the case I would ensure you get your primary lens sorted out to cover you main shooting needs. A lot of wedding pros go with the 24-70 f2.8 and others will go prime or something else depending on style. I would personally go 24-70 with the D700.

That's my choice of weapon with the 2nd camera having the 70-200 2.8.
 
You plan to use a DX lens on a FX body???? A lens that is convenient but one of the softest in Nikons range??? With respect, are you ready for weddings if you need this information. I have done 1 wedding (was just 4 people at a registry office) so not a wedding expert by any means, but if i was to do weddings I would want a D700 and a D300, 24-70, 70-200, sb900 (2), and probably a prime or 2 as a minimum!

At a push I guess, the Tamron 28-75 would do, but without being a camera snob, I would not be impressed if a wedding I was at had someone shooting your combo.
 
I too have been asked to do some pictures at a wedding, but just candid ones as she is a friend and for a different view point. I have a 28-200mm and a 50mm, which I am hoping will be good enough.
