Hello!

I want to get some experience in wedding photography and may need some help!

I am not sure the best way to get experience, I dont want to just do a wedding on my own and possiblt ruin someones big day photo's.

Do you have any advice? or is anyone out there doing a wedding I could pehaps shadow you?

Any help would be fantastic

Thanks :)

Not going to make you an instant wedding togger, but find some workshops, they're good fun if you find the right trainer. Must be some near you? Jeff of Braintree is a good bloke.

Workshops are definately one way and is sometimes more about who you meet rather than what you actually learn.

Workshops have their place, but can't prepare you for the real thing. You are right in wanting to do second shooter with someone else.... you'll learn faster seeing your own mistakes rather than someone else's finished work.

It's a case of how do you get to meet the people to second shoot for though Derek. If you don't know any wedding photographers how do you get that job? Writing does not really work so the best way is to get out there and start networking, start hanging out with other wedding photographers. Sure, workshops don't prepare you for the real world but I always approach them with the idea that so long as I learn something it is never a waste.

Good example, I went to a Nikon pro seminar last week. Did I learn anything? Not really. I got to play with D3s and D7000 but I did meet a couple of really good photographers who I did not know before last week. I found myself sitting eating burgers with two fellowship photographers and now have more contacts that I can ask for help as I learn.

Even being influenced by watching what they do is educational. Just make sure you don't come across as a stalker! lol

Ali. Yeah, I know, it can be tough getting second shooter gigs, especially as a lot of peeps are very protective of their 'patch.' Perhaps moreso in smaller places than large cities though - I guess posting for second shooter gigs on forums like this might help.

The only problem with courses/seminars, etc. is that they don't normally come cheaply, and not everyone can afford them, although I do take your point that she could possibly meet people who could be of help to her. :)

Thanks for your help, I might try the Wedding workshop. :)
