...that use a Canon 5d... can I ask which lens you prefer with it? Am looking at getting one for weddings and portraits but which lens is baffling me... I understand the 24-105 is a great partner for the 5d, but this surely doesnt have the reach for those candids, especially children being natural - dont want to get too close and ruin the moment....

Or do you use 2 bodies? Say a 5d with 24-105 and, say, a 40d with a 70-200?

I'm doing my first wedding with a 5D next week and I'll have the 24-70 on the 5D and 70-200 on my 30D. Should cover just about everything I reckon.

When I used Canon I used the 24-70 on the 5D & the 70-200 2.8 on the 1D - I found it to cover every standard situation I encountered.

The 24-105 is not 2.8 though & I'd definitely take the speed of the 24-70 over the IS of the 24-105.

That's exactly what I was going to say. I have just swapped my 24-105 for the 24-70 2.8 for my weddings and I have my 70-200 2.8 IS. I have a 5D and a 20D crop camera and not sure which lens I will keep on the 20D now:thinking:

Absolutely.

On the D3 at my last wedding had 24-70 and 14-24. On the D200 had the 70-200 ....

I use two bodies all day, if I'm outside then it's the 16-35 2.8 on the 5D, and the 70-200 2.8 on the MKiii.

Inside usually a 24 1.4 on the 5D and either a 50 1.2 or 85 1.2 on the MKiii
