lookibg for a longer lens to complement my primes when needed.

Anyone use the F4 for wedding. Decent saving in price bust thinking I might regret not having the F2.8.

My longest lens st the moment is an 85 1.8
 
depends if you want to use it for inside or outside shots...inside I couldn't live without a 2.8 outside f4 is ok in good light
 
If you're going to use it inside, defo the 2.8. It's only one extra stop, but indoors, it's a very big one stop.
 
Weddings inside a church my 80-200 2.8 gets used more than anything or 50mm 1.8
 
I'm not a wedding photographer but for what it's worth you can always use f4 on a f2.8 lens but cannot do f2.8 with an f4 if you needed it, I guess it depends on if this is for a friends one off wedding or planning a lot more as if I was a betting man if you get and4 you will always wish you had bought the f4 ;)
 
Wedding togs were getting acceptable shots at f/2.8 10+ years ago when iso-800 was about the limit. Surely an f/4 lens on a more modern body is going to be better than that?

I use a Sigma f/2.8 24-70mm for inside work and change to a 24-105mm f/4 or 70-200mm f/4 for just about everything else. And there's the 50mm f/1.8 for emergencies.

It might be cheating but if you shoot in raw with a reasonable full frame camera you can gain an extra stop in Lightroom with no noticeable difference :exit:
 
You may consider the Tamron 70-200 2.8 VC USD if weight is not a concern.

Priced slightly above Nikon 70-200 F4 and have fantastic IQ. I am impressed with the one I have with me now. I don't like the weight, but all 2.8 lenses are heavy anyway. That extra stop of light could be very useful for weddings in terms of light as well as shallow dof.

The Nikon VR (I) is also a good option that doesn not focus breath like other 2.8 versions on Nikon Body.
