Weddings with the D800 as main ( real world experience )

The minimum SS point is a good one.
W/ the D800 (and any camera with similar pixel density) I try not to use less than 2x the FL as the mnimum SS. With care I can get away with 1x FL... but that really is pushing it a bit. That means w/ the D800 you may *need* to use a higher ISO for a given situation as compared to another camera. And that could put the D800 on the loosing side of the comparison.
 
I've been using a D800 and D4 for weddings. Love them both. In extreme low light cases yes the D4/D3S is probably the better body to use as you can go ISO 10000+ if you have to but for the most part in low light the D800 is perfectly fine. I love both and would always keep 2 bodies just so I have 2 different focal length lens ready to use at any given moment - or often I'm shooting with primes only so need both a wide and longer focal length ready (e.g. 35mm + 85mm)....

Changed lens to the 70-200mm? - not only did you miss it, but now you missed the moment the B&G look at each other and give that perfect smile because your 70-200 is too close to capture it how you wanted to frame it.

Personally, if I was shooting weddings all the time, I would have 3 bodies - not because I think one will give up on me, but for the scenario and reason above.

Don't kid yourself Phil. In the scenario you mentioned you would miss it if you had six bodies round your neck. You can only have one camera in your right hand at once and if that happens to be the one with the too-short lens then your stuffed.

Fine then.

when the bride walks down the isle, you might want a wide & an expressive close up...but you shoot with x2 bodies so you most likely know what I mean ;)

For a minute there I thought you were going to tell me to get the Nokia Lumia 1020. But I guess that's too many pixels for processing.
