hi there i have currently been asked to take a few pics for my sisters wedding
i currently use a canon eos 550d with a 35-135mm
and a
nikon d5100 with a 18-300mm
any sugestions on what i should be using

You use both Canon and Nikon? That's rare. You'd be better to stick to one, either or, and get some 2.8 lenses with the money you sell the other for. I think 2.8 lenses are a must for weddings.

A professional?

I took some pics at my sisters wedding a few weeks back and just had a 35-70 2.8 on all day. On ff though so whatever that is on dx. It did a great job and I never felt like I needed any more reach. I did have a 135 with me but never used it.

another option is to get the Nikon 35mm 1.8 for your Nikon body and then a canon 85mm 1.8 for your canon body. As both camera is crop body it would give you normal and tele fixed lens. Stop them down a little and it would be very sharp, also help with low light. After the Wedding you can decide to keep or to sell, both lenses can be sold easily if the price is right.
