Weight Bag for Tripods

Not sure if this is "Equipment" or not but does any have or use a bag that will hold weights to steady a tripod?

I've looked on eBay and can see a possibility in getting a string bag to hang from the hook under the tripod, hopefully this would hold a couple of small rocks to steady the tripod while I give landscape photography a try. I'm normally in a hide, all protected from the wind and other elements and never really needed to steady the tripod before.

Almost any type of bag will work. I will often have three or four carrier bags in the camera bag as well as a couple of sturdier fabric type bags. These can be filled with sand/soil/rocks etc and rested against the legs. If you hang a bag from the middle it can sometimes cause more movement than it fixes particularly in windier conditions. The carrier bags can also double up as makeshift rain covers too :)
 
If I need a stabilising weight, I usually dangle my (closed!) camera bag off the hook. I keep meaning to stick a length of parachute cord in the bag to allow me to make a loop to stand in to hold it all down but keep forgetting!

That has jogged the memory, ta. I've found using a bungee cord is better fwiw :)
 
Thanks for the help. I just tried hanging my camera bag from the hook under the tripod but the one I use is to wide to fit between the legs. Perhaps if I used a karabiner between the hook and the bag it would allow the bag to hang a bit lower and hopefully fit.
 
Make sure, when you hang the bag, that the bag can make contact with the ground. Otherwise, it's just sitting there waiting to be blown side to side and adding to the instability.
 
Depending on where you are going, I've used a plastic or canvas bag and filled it with stones from where I am - meaning I've no extra weight to carry there or on the way back...

Obviously, this isn't always possible to do :)
