Weird EXIF Anomoly

Just noticed that the EXIF on my photos, when taken using Sigma lenses, shows the lens as 100-300m f4.5-5.6. The lenses are 30mm & 105mm.

Just noticed that the EXIF on my photos, when taken using Sigma lenses, shows the lens as 100-300m f4.5-5.6. The lenses are 30mm & 105mm.

I have had that with the exif according to flickr.

I took a shot with my 28 - 300mm Nikkor and the flickr exif stated that the lens was a 200mm f4.

At first I began to wonder if I was correct about the lens I was sure I had used.
However, although I have a 200mm f4 Nikkor, I was able to establish beyond doubt that I did not have that lens when the shot was taken.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the shot on my HD so cannot cross check it's exif data.

I've often seen the wrong lens in flickr exif while nosing through peoples' photos

Happens quite a bit with Sigma lenses. They are reverse engineered and given any old lens code (which is used to identify the lens in the exif)

I think it's Les who gets the same thing when he uses his sigma 105 Macro (which he does to great effect!). IIRC it does report as 105mm WRT focal length used though.

Well it's the same in LR and CS3 so it's not a Flickr issue. Must be a sigma thing then.

Interestingly, the lens doesn't appear in the exif at all when I use the Sigma zooms
