Weird moon tonight

Yeah I saw it, but i had to stand on the wall outside to see it as it was so low. By the time I got the camera and tripod out it had risen a little and lost the colour.

I think its what used to be called a Harvest moon. I saw it at around 7.30pm and was very low and golden.

I saw it yesterday evening and tried to take a shot with my camera phone (I know - ridiculous but was worth a shot!)
I took a few shots this morning as it was high and bright but my lenses (and skills) do not do it justice :(

Haven't seen the sky, sun or moon for weeks - heavy, sullen, cloud and rain.

I think it may have something to do with catching the sun light as the moon rises. It was just after sunset last night so that may be it...

I have seen orange-ish moon rises several times before. Again it was soon after sunset so it may have something to do with it...

Sunset is about 6:30 tonight, so the plan is to take the camera and tripod out whilst walking the dog in a favourable area. Lets hope the weather stays good and the scene repeats itself. I know - ever the optimist:D

Im in the North Sea working away, we have had perfect moon rises all week, very clear out here, must be mainland Scotland holding in all the misery

The moon looks large but its always the same size, possible answer is that when its near the horizon, objects you can see like trees and houses will give the impression that it looks bigger, cover the moon at arms length with your finger tip when it appears massive, then do it again, high in the sky and you will notice you cover it exactly the same.

Very yellow and large. Any reasons? Anyone got any good shots?

I don't really see why people are so instead of the moon we all have seen it many times;) you can always ask NASA why they did return to the moon . if you need the pictures

Are you for real?

Just about to post the same thing myself, and the reflection colour is a mixture of sun and anything in the atmosphere that might effect it.

Or it could be a sign of a Curse when the sun burn us!

See . . . I knew it was the end of the world

Well it's a shame to waste it... I'll help you drink it... ;)

Since I missed you last night Wayne, and seeing as we're all still alive today I'll join you for a virtual glass tonight instead

Harold Camping has just announced a revised date for the end of the world. It's now going to be next Friday 21st October. Apparently his earlier date of 21st May only applied to people who were already in heaven.

It was very orange on the way up ...........

By 10 mins later, was at normal (as it seems) colour.

It's just pollutants in the lower atmosphere.

Or it could be the end of the world, you never know...

Excellent shot.

I went out last night, camped on a hillside for the moonrise and typically it didn't because of the low cloud.

Thanks much - I did pretty much the same for the lunar eclipse earlier this year, & cloud got in the way.

I never tire of looking up at that big ball of shiny rock. Never.

Its been even nicer the last week to see Juipter just sitting alongside.

Is jupiter still visible??

You can wait when NASA goes to Mars, in 2016 but the pictures of Mars now do look like the outback of Australia so why wait and go to Australia, or you can wait a little longer when China goes to the moon? that will very interesting to see the China flag next to USA if there is one?, Did you know the chinese are already selling apart of the moon for future farming here in China.

Jupiter was visible for us still on Saturday. I'm addicted to my new app on android tablet - Google Sky Maps. It's great!

I saw the moon on my way home the other night. Quickly got to my house, grabbed my gear and drove to a decentish spot. The moon had already started to lose its colour by the time I got set up but here are a couple of shots I took.

and I take it this is Jupiter?

Oh and I tried doing a couple of long exposures which were ruined by a UFO (as well as the moon obviously, but I was just experimenting with the landscape)

I know it's just a plane but it still looks good.
