Weird Network IP Address Problem

OK, 1 PC connected to a router by both wireless and cable - wireless on the PC is a static IP address, and wire is DHCP. Both work fine.

Three other laptops on the wireless network which were set up for DHCP, but I want to change them to static IP for VNC access - every time I set a static IP on any of them, I get local access, but NO Internet access past the router?

Tried IP's both inside and outside the DHCP range allocated from the router and still the same outcome - anyone any ideas?

what are you setting as the DNS addresses?

Shouldn't have to set them, should I? Have done it before and never had to set them and it worked fine??

Have you set a default gateway, which should be the router address?

What's the subnet mask set to? Normally on a home network it's 255.255.255.0

Yup, gateway is the router addy, and subnet as above...

yup.. set the primary to the same as your gateway and try that.

Will give it a try when I go back tomorrow... ended up short of time today and had other things to sort out... thanks.

Previously using DHCP- it would assign the dns automatically, now your using static- you need to define them- most probably to the same as the gateway address (or you could use external addresses). If that doesn't work, can you still ping the gateway?

Sorted - pointing the laptops to the router IP for DNS fixed it - can't ever remember having to do it before, but it's been a long time...

Thanks to all.
