Weird Outlook behaviour

interesting, i heard a colleague mention a similar issue with one of our machines (although on exchange).. i cant help you with a solution other to suggest it may be a known bug in that case?

Can't say I've had that problem myself. Have you been in touch with your web host to ensure it's not a problem at the server end rather than locally on your machine? I'm wondering if it could be related to a backup/restore function in some way?

Sorry, should have said, it's 2011 on the mac. Not sure about the server end but the emails are all to my Hotmail address so not sure if that has a bearing. I have 4 other email accounts using Outlook.
 
If The Outlook settings are pretty much out of the box then it won't be a server side issue- hence the POP3/IMAP question.

It sounds as though something is mucking about with your PST file. Were current emails missing after the old ones reappeared?

The emails remain in my inbox in the browser, I always assumed that was because it was POP3 (Can't get it to work as imap) so hadn't given it that much thought. Think that could be the reason then?

No, the emails that I had moved to folders were still in said folders.

Look in the configuration options under 'mail' and select 'delete original message after download'.

Ah, I see what you're saying. There's an option to Leave a copy on the server after download so I've unchecked that (nearest I could find on the mac version). Hopefully that will resolve it, cheers.
 
It should do, but I'm not promising!

Bear mind that you'll only be able to access unread mail from now on.
 
If you are trying to read your emails online, the only content of your hotmail inbox will be those that haven't been read (ie downloaded and then deleted from the server) by your computer.
