Welding glass plus filter for a cheap ND...

Excellent links thanks.... main question is the filter bit (already sold to buying a welding glass bit)

The one I've linked says its a filter for Cokin... just can't see on the pic how it would hold anything.

So mainly I'd like to see whether someone has one and how it works...
Especially if it has anything sticking up, won't be worth getting.

(usual worries)

Those adapters are used with the Cokin filter holder. It screws into the filter thread and then the cokin holder slides over the lip on the other end.
You dont need the holder, but you could use it to hold the welding glass, but Im not sure about how much light leak you would get. Most people either glue or blutac the weldding glass onto the adpater.

This link shows how it attaches usually.

Just use a cheap UV filter with the thread size of your lens, add a thin ring of blutack around the edge and secure it to the welding glass, if hard enough you should still be able to unscrew/screw the filter onto the lens and get no light leaking :)

Bit of a threadjack, but this sounds like a great idea. I have a Cokin adapter for one of my lenses (used to be my dad's from way back when but it was just sitting in a draw gathering dust), not sure what size but one of the filters i have for it (of the three... two of which are the same grad., the other seems to be a soft focus/star effect) measures approx ~72x66x2mm, is there some welding glass sold in this size or a cheap made to measure service?

Also, how do you calculate how long a B exposure you need? Cheers :)

Another thread (think its linked in one of the replies above) has a calculation - alternatively - guess ? ;) bit of experimenting :D

As to the glass, I don't think it was too big, perhaps 10cm ish square?
If you know any glass cutters they might be able to cut it smaller... will let you know when it arrives :)

Edit:

Wouldn't that degrade the pic quality - or won't it matter?
