Welding Glass Poll

Hi Mods could you make this into a poll for me as I'm interested in seeing just what people think of the welding glass method I posted back along. It would be good to see just how many people have tried it out too. Thanks

Your thoughts on the welding glass method?

1. Total waste of time. Don't bother with it.

2. It is O.K. but no really worth the effort.

3. Good but I will get a proper B&W 10 stop.

4. Excellent and well worth the effort.

5. The best thing since sliced bread.

6. I already own a real 10 stop filter.

How about:

It's too green.

It flares quite a bit.

It's a pain to fit and looks a mess.

It cuts your fingers.

But it works

looks a mess - thankfully cameras were designed to take pictures and not walk down the catwalk

1 and 6 for me... i haven't seen a welding glass shot that is either sharp or that I like.

Its a good way to get out shooting maybe not to produce amazing shots though

Green - custom WB

Custom white balance sorts it out quite well, but you still end up with greens being a bit light and reds going darker, which is inevitable.

I guess you could sort that a bit better in post processing, but when I say "too green" I mean that it's too far out to be corrected easily.

To answer the poll, I have now dismantled my Blu Tack and taped up rig, and put a B+W ten stopper on my shopping list

I voted 7 but in fairness, it only arrived yesterday.

It looks like quite a challenge but I reckon there's always a way to shoot to your advantages.

That £1 was the best £1 ever spent.

It's like buying a cruddy tripod/flashgun/specialist lens to see if that sort of thing 'is for you'.

I think if anything it goes to show how overpriced some camera equipment is.

The best £2 I have spent in a while, it is not something I will use everyday so well worth the money

I took delivery of mine at the beginning of the week, so will need to get out there and try it....as for it cutting your fingers, cover the edges in tape? it's not within the focal range anyway.

Might try superglueing mine to a 77mm Cokin adapter!!

Love it or hate it, it is pushing the boundaries of cheap effects photography I think and for less then the cost of a lens cap. I just wonder what the next el-cheapo project will be, get you thinking caps on and give TP another exclusive.
