I've tried and tried not to have equipment envy, even when a mate waved his 5DmkII with a 24/70 f/2.8 in my face, but today I have seen the light.

I use a D200 and love it. I wanted a D300 but wasn't overly bothered about saving for one.... until today. A mate has just returned from the states where he picked up a D300s, 17-35mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, SB900 and a 70-300 VR for the bargain price of £1500.

The lenses are awesome, particularly the 17-35mm - what a peach - and the SB900, although it dwarfs my Sb800, is great. But the camera, oh my god, how good is it?!!!

The HD video capability, something I was suspicious of, is superb and the AF speed is amazing. The high ISO performance is amazing and the build quality seems even better than that of the D200, which is awesome anyway. It's just a perfect camera.

I'm not weighing up which organ I can do without - any suggestions? :D

Sperm donor?
Although it might take quite a lot of visits to the clinic ;)

It is indeed a lovely body, a mate of mine has one, I'd hang on a little while for the price to pop down a little (if it ever does that is) and then think about selling an organ or two ;)

 well he recently proved his 'supply' is worthy, so might be an option

Alternatively, kidney perhaps, or maybe a liver lobe? Mind you, if he thinks the D300s is awesome, I would hate to see his reaction to a D3x, that poor child will be up on auction on ebay before you could say 'dirty nappies'

If you are not bothered about the video capability, why ot get one of the bargain d300's while they last. I paid under £1k for mine and I have seen a few people on here pay just under £900. is a bargain at £1k and a steal at £900.

just for comparison how much would that lot cost in UK?

£1100 for the body
£1300(ish) for the 17-35mm
£400 for the 70-300mm
£350 for the SB900
£100 for the 50mm
TOTAL: £3200ish

Total bargain. Plus, he's going to get a 24-70mm next.... words fail me!!!

that was a great bargian, did he get caught for import duty and tax.

£100 for the 50mm

That would be an f1.8, £220 for f1.4D.

Were these second hand US prices?

Totting up new prices on B+H (the first I found, cheaper places probably available!), I got a total of $4720, which is £2827 at current exchange rates, which isn't quite so uncomfortable.

Edit: Used Dealtime price comparison site and got it down to £2594 total.

you've got me excited , i've got a business trip to Houston next week, but the lens i'm after 24-70 is the same price in the us (2000 dollars approximately) :'(

Typo - it's the f/1.8 50mm :) Got myself all excited then :D

Not used prices - he got them direct from Nikon through a contact. Used Airmiles to get over there for free and brought it back - the boxes are in transit.
