Yes
Bought an ex display D300 from White City Currys today, I don't think it has ever seen a lens or a battery until now, but how do I know how many actuations it's had ? I have a Mac so Opanda doesn't work for me.

Take a pic then open in preview. Not sure if its in get info, but its somewhere...

I get a pic.
Convert it to jpeg in photoshop and stick in on flickr.
Tell you on there.

If you just copy a file to your mac then open it in preview, then go to the tools menu and inspector, you will see the more info box appear.

Select the more info tab, second one in from left.

Then you can look at the General, Exif, IPTC, JFIF, and TIFF info.

The actuation count will be in the one of those menus as long as you have not stripped your exif info.

This is the Exif info in Preview, can't see an actuation count ?

I'm obviously having one of those days, can't find any exif on Flick at all. This is the image I took (just to find out the shutter count, I hasten to add). Any help ?

You have disable it in your stats as mine says taken with a D3 and then theres a more stats button to take you to the settings and what not.

You will have to click your name (signed in) then edit your privacy settings in 'privacy & permissions' tab and change 'Hide your EXIF data' and change to YES.

Well, I've checked my Flickr settings as suggested, and Exif should have been visible. I think it must have something to do with changing the size or saving the image in CS2 ? Anyway exif is visible now as I've uploaded the original 5.7 mb file. Still can't see an actuation count though.

I've had another look but the EXIF data isn't showing Shutter count for some reason  i'm not sure if this function can be disabled in camera, i wouldn't have thought so.
you could try and just do a quick photo of something (without software intervention) - upload - see if it's there - delete !

Best to take a shot in jpeg and upload that, sometimes th shutter count number gets stripped when converting from raw, or so I've found anyway

The shot on my flickr was taken in jpeg and uploaded "as is". I think I'm going to RTFM and not worry about it - I can see the info in konastab's Flickr, must just be me !

Do a search for another little bit of mac software called exif viewer, that might help you out.

Oh hey! The qualifying's on!

The data's NOT in the file re: the actuation count. Hmmmm....

If you would like to email me a RAW image straight out of the camera, I'd be more than happy to help out a local-ish D300 user :)

I bought my D300 from Curry's in Wrexham, I was delighted to see this from the first click.....

shutterc.jpg

I run Intel Macs, one of which has Crossover installed on it which allows me to run Windows software without, Ahem(!)... installing Windows.

Then I can run Photo-Me, part of the output you can see above.

I've just downloaded that Rob and mine doesnt show the 'manufacturers notes' bit. Is there a setting I need to change?

Kev.

Just a few notes on what I did....

The metadata goes on for pages! At the very bottom of those pages is what you see in my image.

On that image above, just up from the bottom edge there's a red 'delete' box with the word 'find'. Alongside it there's the search box that I typed 'shutter' in to. That brought up a subset of the data on the 12bit .NEF that I tried it on.

That's all I did with the Photo-Me software, I literally used it with all the default installation settings on the first file that I had to hand - which was the very first file I captured with my new camera.

-Rob

Yeah, I saw that 'shutter' bit. I tried that also. No info for me...
Oh well.

Kev.
