the "Great British Photograph" comp

However:

By entering the competition, Participants grant Archant Ltd and its Competition Partners an irrevocable, non-exclusive, worldwide royalty-free license to reproduce, publicly display, distribute, publicly perform and create derivative works from their Submitted Materials, in all media, solely in connection with the administration, judging and promotion of the Great British Photograph 2010 competition.

maybe not...........

It starts off like the usual rights grabbing terms and conditions, but the last line makes me think otherwise:

solely in connection with the administration, judging and promotion of the Great British Photograph 2010 competition

So they can do what they like with your submission, but only to publicise the 2010 competition (if I'm reading that right?). I'd probably still steer clear, but it may not be quite so clear cut?

Chris

the full bit is here... I must confess, I didn't read it all.....

Submitted Materials will NOT be used for commercial advertising purposes and will NOT be altered without the prior consent of the author, except as necessary to display or distribute them in a particular medium or format. Permissible uses of Submitted Materials shall include their reproduction, distribution and display in exhibitions, multimedia presentations, and printed materials related to or promoting the Great British Photograph 2010 and/or its sponsorship by Great British Life, Photography Monthly and their Competition Partners. Great British Life, Photography Monthly and its Competition Partners shall have the right to grant sublicenses to the press and publicity agents in connection with the promotion of the Award or the competition. Great British Life, Photography Monthly and its Competition Partners also shall have the right to make the Submitted Materials available to third-parties for viewing on computer screens and other media devices, and for storage in electronic format, for personal, non-commercial uses only.

but pretty sure any photo I submit (if I were to) I would lose all rights........... a cunning way to get loads of pics for b****r all...

Those are good terms. They can only use the photo in connection with the competition or the award.

They can use the photo to promote the award in 5 years etc....but still......better terms than most.

I agree, doesn't sound too bad

Really? I submit, say 10 pics, none of which win b****r all, yet i lose all rights to the pics...

That's true, but what they can actually do with them is pretty limited. They can use them to say 'look at the kind of photos we have in our competition' (which they probably won't do if they haven't won anyway as there'll presumably be better ones - no offence meant there ;) :D ).

So yes, you've given them rights to your photos for free, but if they can't really do anything with them........

Chris

You don't lose all rights to your pics..They gain some...that's all :)

What on earth kind of conditions do you want? You want to be in on a chance of winning but don't want them to be able to display your picture?

First place goes to **** ****** with their photograph ***********:

I think they're the most reasonable conditions you're ever likely to find andif you don't like that then maybe you shouldn't bother looking for contests.
