Yes
I just grabbed www.e510.co.uk :) couldn't believe it was available to be honest. There's nowt there at the moment so no need to clickety click. I'll be having a think about how I use it over the next few weeks.

I am going to use this for my online gallery though am not sure if I will use 4images, coppermine or another free Open Source gallery script, or if I should use something like clickpic et al.

I have recently seen a Joomla site with what looked like a nice gallery plug-in - not sure what it was called though? I even like the look of some of the templates created by LightRoom.

What do you use for your galleries...?

Does this mean you are thinking of upgrading to the E-510?

If so, wise choice, cracking camera

wel I'm glad you asked Ven, I was thinking food additives. :embarrassed:

At least there's finally some common ground. ;)

Although one preferes to think of oneself as a mamiya owner don't you know.

;):LOL::D

TBH, I don't even know what half the kit I have is called, let alone try and keep up with anyone elses.

Hehe... gotcha there Ven :)

Yup - I did it... I bit the bullet and went out today and purchased the E-510. Haven't switched it on yet though as the battery is charging and I want to ensure I get maximum life out of it so am awaiting for it to be fully charged.

The thing is, I have now spent all the free time I can manage here in Johannesburg and I am busy all day tomorrow and Thursday so won't have time to test it out on anything substantial until I get home to the two new King Charles Cavalier pups my wife purchased on the weekend...:)

Could have done with it at the zoo today though, I was very unsteady using the 45-150mm zoom at full zoom.

Hi King - nice site using flash, but it did take a little while to load up fully. Once there though was very quick. Great pics you have there sir too.

I am going to have a real good think about what gallery script I use for my site. I will only use it for family and friends etc, as I have no ideas of grandeur re my photography talent - or rather, lack of!! I simply want a nice looking site where I can place my better images for viewing et al. Quite pleased with the domain name though - I wonder if Olympus will be after me... :)

I use jalbum for the gallery side of things, loads of different themes to choose from, can be played with in web design programs to tweak if not quite how you want it, and best of all...FREE!! :D [although some of the themes have to paid for for advert free versions]

Thanks for this info LadyLens - I wasn't aware of this application and will have a looksie tomorrow evening.

LOL, same, I had no idea.

E-510 to me comes across as a Sony Ericsson phone. :bonk:
Huh? Sony Ericsson Phone...? I am confused sorry Raymond. Do you just mean the name E-510 seems to you like the name of a phone or that the domain directs you to a site of this nature?

The name E-510 makes me think its a Sony ericsson phone site, since their phones are numbered....K750, W600, W800, W810, W300, Z500, Z250...etc...etc

Ahaa.... now I understand. Sorry, it's getting late here and the different oils used in the making of food are having an effect on me :):)

Aye, thats the problem using flash, going to try and incorperate the portfolio section into an HTML site I think, will be much quicker.

Let us know when you have chosen/setup.

King.

Not a fan of flash myself... in the end, the viewer ends up waiting longer than with xhtml+css+js+images.

If you want something nice and free, check out Drupal for content management, Coppermine and Gallery 2 for image galleries.

Have a look at http://www.opensourcecms.com/ for more, it's not a bad resource, even thought it's quite far from being complete.

If you must have flash on your site for presentation of photos, I'd suggest Simpleviewer, as it's fairly elegant and fast enough for most people.

And if you change your camera??? :D

New domain name???

Could have been worse....

Could have bought the new canon 40D and ended up with a domain name that sounds like a porn site :D

Are you sure you do not mean it is the ammonium chloride* used in the making of food that is getting to you?

Michael.

* Ammonium chloride is also known on food labels as E510

Good point Janice, but domain names are easy to come by nowadays, and as I own my own dedicated server - to get anything transferred from one domain to another is fine and dandy.

Also, this is only my hobby, and the site domain name will only be used for sharing images with my family, friends and you darned good folks on here - there's no way I'd ever get proficient enough to be able to sell any of my images, so this domain name will serve me well for a number of years. Only £2.99 per year too!!

I do have a habit of collecting domain names to be honest, and currently own around 20 or so!!

Finally, I only just purchased the E-510, so I guess this will do me fine for a number of years.

I bet that little croc image would sell.

Musicman where did you get your domain name from I am looking at setting a site up, hosting, etc and will obviously need one of these thingies too
Hey Sheep - I tend to use 123-reg for dot co dot uk domains and namecheap for all others. However, in this case I had searched on namecheap for e510.com - but this was already taken by some shabby Japanese site, so I did a check for the e510.co.uk and saw it was available so purchased from Namecheap. I think it is a little more expensive to purchase .co.uk domains from namecheap, but not so much that it breaks the bank.

I wholeheartedly recommend www.namecheap.com - an excellent domain name registrar. Any domains you purchase are instantly available too.

Now I am really flattered... you serious Daz...? I am shocked honestly I am. Thank you so much for that comment.

i use 123-reg for my domain names.

Dont use flash for major points of your website..its really annoying. People will click the 'x' button before it loads if it takes more than a nanosecond to load ;)

As for gallery scripts, there are milllions out there. Try hotscripts.com they have a few on there.

The gallery script i use is very good. Very simple, very easy to change and adapt to your site, and no adverts. And is free.

Just go to my site (in my siggie) and go to the galleries.

It also has a really cool way of loading up the full size image..which is another reason why i chose it.

:)

They do seem cheap but cheap to buy usually means very pricey to take your domain away from them. I had a quick look and I could see no price for doing so. Free to other people as long as they are on name cheap. I guess if you're not it's gonna cost u ...

you serious Daz...?

Deadly. You'd be amazed at some of the crap I've sold. ;)

Seriously, it's a great image. You don't have to be an old hat with a heap of top gear to see something you like and get a good shot of it. It will happen if you let your eye guide you.

edit.....
You don't need to take my word for it anyway, just look at the comments it's getting.
