Hey guys,

I am a panicking a little bit here!

Basically I have been asked through a mate of a mate do some glamour shots tomorrow outside Wembley. It is for a distribution company and I have just spoke to the guy on the phone and he didn't really take my concerns on board about my equipment!

Basically I have a D40 with kit lens and the sigma 70-300 and no tripod.

He just wants me to capture the moments when the girls are flirting with the fans, policeman etc.

So some advice would be much appreciated e.g what lens would be better? Shall I put on the flash (a trusted friend said that all press photographers always leave the flash on?!).

I have never done 'professional' work before, just hobbie style stuff for me. Thanks again

cant help apart from be careful about togging the police , i know its not illegal , but there response appears as though it can be far from rational at times :bang:

I think you'll be better off with the kit lens rather than the 70-300. On a crop the 70-300 will be too zoomed in and you'll have to stand so far back you'll inevitably get people walking between you and the models.

I'd leave the flash on too to use as fill. Looks cloudy outside just up the road here in Harrow so I'd dial the flash down to about -1 or -2 just to lift the shadows a bit and make them stand out from the background. If it gets sunny later [EDIT - the sun has come out since I originally typed this] you'll want to dial it down less (maybe as high as 0) as the shadows will need more fill - watch your exposure times too as if it's sunny you'll have to go to a much smaller aperture to get the max sync speed for your camera.

And one last thing - if you want to look like press then keep a stofen on your flash outside. It does nothing except waste batteries but all the press seem to have them on for some reason.
