So I have bought a networked 2tb western digital NAS drive. All is good and working as it should be but I have a question! I deleted the folders for time machine as I don't want it backing up my computer, I just want to have cloud storage and an area where customers can view their images which I've sorted out. I have a public folder and a smartware folder.

My question is: is the smartware folder private? Ie do I put my 'stuff' in there?

I have got a wad of raw files, documents, music etc that I want only me to view so putting them in the public folders will mean everyone can see them so it must be this smatware folder ??

I have the 3tb version sorta working the way I want now.
I think if you create shares with passwords and users, that have only particular shares, it shouldn't let anyone else see stuff there.
But you'd need to run a test of it first. Might be better posting on wd forum. There are some helpful people there (although they didn't like it when I said I was turning my 3tb networked on and off a lot and only connecting to a computer... seems the computer sometimes gives it a different ip.. or remembers one and doesn't let it talk properly).
 
just make people aware that they are S...L...O..W..
i tried logging into mine remotely the other night & nearly lost the will to live..
