Hello all,

What are the requirements from a flat bed scanner for film. I need a new printer and thought about trying to find a budget scanner printer that I could use for scanning film .

thanks all

You more than likely won't find a printer / scanner with negative scanning. Negative scanning needs a light source in the lid like @Stephen L mentioned.

To get an idea have a look at the Epson v500 scanner to get an idea of how negative scanning works.

Something like the Canon Pixma MG8220 will scan negatives apparently. I don't know what the quality is like though (or if you can still buy them - or if there is a similar replacement).

Great find. I never knew Canon did that kind of thing. I've looked at the spec and it does have a light source in the lid, so presumably it would fit the bill. The negative scanning is high resolution too. at 9600x4800 at 24bit colour.

Sadly no longer available new but I wonder if there's a new alternative.
