I've just bought a new Manfrotto 410 for my manfrotto tripod and when I removed my old one I noticed I was missing a screw. Anyone know what these are called and where can I get some?

Not sure on the name but I'm 99% sure I saw them in my local calumet store
 
They are grub screws.
You'll need to measure them to find out what thread they are but you'll get them at any decent engineering supplier and probably ebay too. :thumbs:
 
You can also make your own easily enough, just find a screw that fits, cut it down to length and hacksaw a slot in it.
A good tip is fit two blades in the hacksaw, that way you get a wider slot. :thumbs:
 
Thanks, grub screws ring a bell now, I was going to google them but didn't know what I was searching for. I'll have a look on e-bay I'm sure there willl be some on there.
 
John, the grub screws that stop heads unscrewing from Manfrotto tripods are 6mm thread. If it's just one that's missing, I wouldn't worry about it in the slightest - 3 grubscrews is way overkill - plenty of far more critical applications use just one (and it's easy to check if the head's coming unscrewed and to tighten it if necessary).

If the postage wasn't more than the cost of the screws, I would send you a short piece of 6mm stud - it's almost certainly cheaper for you to buy some locally and cut it down to size. Rather than make an extra wide slot, use the correct size screwdriver for the narrow slot a single blade will cut. A metre of steel stud is £2.18 from B&Q - a decent hardware shop should be able to supply a single bolt (or machine screw) for far less!
