John, the grub screws that stop heads unscrewing from Manfrotto tripods are 6mm thread. If it's just one that's missing, I wouldn't worry about it in the slightest - 3 grubscrews is way overkill - plenty of far more critical applications use just one (and it's easy to check if the head's coming unscrewed and to tighten it if necessary).
If the postage wasn't more than the cost of the screws, I would send you a short piece of 6mm stud - it's almost certainly cheaper for you to buy some locally and cut it down to size. Rather than make an extra wide slot, use the correct size screwdriver for the narrow slot a single blade will cut. A metre of steel stud is £2.18 from B&Q - a decent hardware shop should be able to supply a single bolt (or machine screw) for far less!
