Hopefully someone can help me out.

I am wanting to buy a couple of square mtrs of both black and white backround material to play about with. For example I want to take a few shots of some flowers in our house and would like to place them on black material but can anyone tell me the best type of material to use? Something that doesn't bounce flash and doesn't crease easily so it's easier to work with.

Thanks in advance

Hi Clarke. I have used black felt for this type of project. Works very well, doesn't crease to much and wont cost you an arm and a leg.

Black velvet is the other alternative

aye, sucks up light :)

for white... craft paper works well and you can buy it by the roll. I've even shot small objects in a mini studio made from normal A4 printer paper propped up, with 3 or 4 speedlights dotted around. Gotta be careful not to get the joins in.

Thanks guys for the replies, black velvet or felt it is then.

What material woul be best for baby photos? I did try a White sheet but I wasn't that happy with it as I couldn't iron out all the creases.

Get yourself a large white fluffy towel or a sheepskin type mat.

I bought a natural sheepskin rug from ikea for about £10 and some fluffy material from abakhan (its a haberdashery shop) for about the same. The combination works very well for young kids/babies so long as they are supervised and hopefully not sick on it :)
