What camera, around the same specs as a D60 but motorised? help?

Funding is major issue :shake:, so wanting to swap my D60 for a camera that is motorised, so I can pick up a variety of cheaper lenses that aren't, as I simply cannot afford to be buying AF-S lenses.

Spec wise, it doesn't need to be any better than the D60, but definetly not any worse, literally If I could put a motor in my D60 it would be bliss, but alas thats not going to happen. :shake:

Can anyone suggest camera models (doesn't have to be nikon) that are around the same value/spec of the D60, but are internally motorised, so can use lenses that aren't motorised.

Other than the D90, wouldn't they all be a step down though? quality and spec wise?

Probably, and they're all quite heavy compared to your D60, the only one to consider would be the D90 in my opinion...

I was in the same predicament as you when choosing my DSLR, ended up with the D5000, which I'm very happy with, and the only lens that is manual so far is my 8mm Fish Eye - which in all fairness you don't really need to focus anyway!

What lenses are you looking at? Most of the focus range is available in AF-S for Nikon anyway, yes they're more expensive, but once you've got them that's it!

a used D5000
a used Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 HSM [will AF]

or cheap used Nikon 18-55 AF-S DX VR ...good kit lens
or used Nikon 18-70

plus 35mm 1.8 AF-S DX £130 used

should cover all except a wildlife zoom

I'm not sure about a step down. All of the suggested cameras will give good results with the right lens. I've had a D70 and apart from the small rear screen it was an excellent camera but I think I would plump for a D80 out of the list above. Still a good camera and at a reasonable price, have a look at MPB they have some in at the moment.

what are you after shooting? I would choose any of those models over a D60 mainly because I get on with 2nd LCD screens but I can see your concerns with 'dropping down spec'.. D80/D90 are the obvious choices for similar MP but if you shoot wildlife/sports I would consider the D70 or better still the D70s for the 8000/1 shutter.

Apart from the 50mm f1.8 , what cheap lenses are you after? A lot of the cheap old Nikon AF-D kit lenses aren't really worth the hassle in my opinion. A used Nikon 18-70 AF-S for £70, used 55-200 AF-S for £90 and a 35m F1.8 AF-S for £120 should cover many bases for you. The D60 is a great camera and I reckon you will be frustrated by the tiny screen on the D50 /D70 era of camera.
