Hi All,

Someone on another forum has £400 to spend on a camera that he needs to take pictures of his Daughter horse riding.

As I have little or no knowledge of consumer or bridge cameras I was wondering if you could help.

I guess he needs something with as high an ISO as possible.

Many thanks for your help.

Best regards

Chris

For high ISO you should go with a DSLR with a fast lens.
A used 20D, 30D or 400D + a used 2.8 lens would do fine for around £400

Many thanks for the suggestion but this is someone who does not appear to be into photography. I don't fancy trying to explain the ins and outs of DSLR's and getting the right lens and of course buying second hand.

He has already brushed aside someone elses suggestion of a DSLR.

Best regards

Chris

With shutter lag being a huge problem in compacts, then your friend needs to perhaps rethink his/her stance on DSLRs. To capture the moment properly a DSLR will be required (or a Leica, I suppose!). I would have thought that a DSLR with a super zoom would be ideal eg. Nikon D40 and Sigma 18-200OS would cost less than £400 and be available thru here or the Bay and suit the bill perfectly.
Bridge-wise, I used to have a Panasonic FZ28 (new one is a 38). I found it to be a fantastic little camera. Huge zoom, RAW if required and easy to operate. Video, obviously. Available for well under £400.

If a lot of this is done in indoor arenas, then a fast f/2.8 lens would be recommended, but getting a dslr and lens for £ 400 would be very difficult. If mostly outdoors and daytime, less of an issue, and either a dslr with consumer grade zoom.

Second best will be a 'bridge' camera - although they may be disappointed, especially if in arenas.
