Hi,

I have a canon EOS 550D (DSLR T2i)

I have a few compatible lenses, what other canon cameras would my lens' be compatible with?

might sound like a silly question to you experts

Really need to know exactly which lenses you have. All modern canon autofocus lenses (EF and EF-S designated) will work with what is referred to as crop sensor bodies. E.g. All the bodies with 2,3 or 4 numbers before the D, for example 40D, 400D, 600D, 1100D. (the odd one out is the 7D, it's okay too)

If they are EF-S only lenses then they cannot be used on what is referred to as full frame
sensor cameras, (these have single digit numbering, with the exception of the 7D, see above) these are the 1D and 1Ds series, and the 5D series. These can only use EF designated lenses.

Also, what kind of photography do you do?

I'm doing wildlife photography but some areas of transport photography interest me.

7D in that case.

Brad can you tell us what lenses you have ? The reason I ask is because I am not entirely sure your reasons for asking the question. If its because you want another camera then I would ask why? THe 550d is a cracking camera and is great for anything other than very specific specialised work and the extra expense of a 7d for example would be pointless. I don't mean to sound rude but the fact you asked the question about lens compatibility in the first place may be that your knowledge and experience is in the early stages in which case I would steer you away from anything like a 7d which is a very high spec/ tech body which really needs an experienced and more importantly a patient user to get the best out of it. If my guess is correct then you would see no advantage over your 550d apart from the faster focussing that the 7d has and even then only if you were doing a lot of say Motorsport etc. could be advantageous to some kinds of wildlife shooting so that's why I think more info would help us to help you.

Any of the EF and EF-S lenses will work with any of the XXXD or XXD bodies, and the 7D, so there are no compatibility problems there; but why do you want another camera? The 550D is excellent.

I think if your going to upgrade from a 550D you need to go for a 7D, or 5D if you want full frame and have the cash but 7 sounds better for you. 550D is good camera thou, unless you really need a upgrade i would just get a nice L series lens if you dont have any
