Hi,

I'm new to photography and am about to buy a camera on eBay. I have about £300 to spend and therefore have narrowed it down to the Nikon D90 and D5100. Any help or recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you want to just shoot with the minimum of fuss go for the D5100

If you want to learn how to use a DSLR get the D90

Having used a D90 for a couple of years and looked at the D5100, I'd agree with Nick and go for the D90.

I have both and find I use the D5100 a bit more often, mainly because it's lighter. I mainly use aperture priority and don't need to fiddle with settings that often. However, the D90's viewfinder is streets ahead of the D5100 as it's much larger and a pentaprism rather than a porroprism. The results from both are excellent but, of course, the D5100 shares the D7000's sensor so is more useable at high ISOs.

Another vote for a d90.
