Im looking at a budget of £350, Mayb upto £500.
But i went into a camera store the other day and the guy at the time suggested a nikon d3000, Im looking for a semi pro one so can anyone give me advise?

I recently purchased a nikon D5000 for £479, with 18-55 kit lens, uv filter & cleaning kit.

I'm very pleased with it - I chose it because (apart from liking Nikons) I have small hands, it has a swivelling screen on the back so I don't have to lie on the ground to take good shots, the reviews I read about it were all very positive, and it was good value for money.

Why don't you go to your local camera shop and have a play with a couple?

On the Nikon front the entry semi-pro (now-ish) body is the D300 - Not seen any in that price range. second user or ex-demo:'(

For me semi pro is all about build quality and just how dust proof the seals are - body costruction is more rugged imho ***

You could get a Canon 30D (around £280) or a 40D ( around £400), both great cameras.

Only semi-pro Nikon I have seen in that price range is a D200 - a little old, but still capable of holding their own !

Why not checkout the Fuji S5 Pro.
IMHO a much better cam than the above mentioned D200.
On the budget you have you might want to consider Nikon D1X, a good one will set you back about £250-300, putting it well within your budget and it's a Pro Body

You should get one that matches your needs the most. Spend some time researching and don't be tempted to rush into the market to buy one.

does it have to be a dslr?..i am sure a lot of semi pro's use pocketable models without interchangeable lenses...
