What Camera System Would YOU Buy?

No hypotheticals. This is a kit that I started putting together from scratch in about November of last year. Everything was purchased used and involved a lot of horse trading to get to its current state. For example, I bought that 400mm 5.6 and a 2x extender for $600, then sold the extender for $330. All part of the hobby.

I'm a big proponent of buying 1-2 generation old gear, and with lenses, even older. Depreciation has mostly bottomed out. Kind of a rule of thumb: Never buy anything that I can't sell for >= what I paid for it.

This method, right now, pretty much precludes mirrorless gear. We're about on 2nd-gen mirrorless and I'm not interested in 1st-gen anything. There's pretty much no used market in mirrorless at the moment and probably won't be for another 5 years.

Either a used Canon R with the ring adapter and a used 24-70L f4 or a used Fuji XH-1 with a bunch of f2 primes. Was I meant to leave room for a tripod and a head as well?

I'd buy an X-T3, 23mm f2, and 18-55 f 2.8-4. Pretty much part of what I currently own.
I did pretty much this. Ideally I would like to squeeze in a telephoto lens too, either the 55-200 or 50-30, depending on budget.

After 10 years shooting Canon, 8 of which with my 5D I traded in all my kit and started with a clean slate. Hopefully my current kit will last me another 8 to 10 years!

Fuji H1 and 16-55 2.8.

I would buy the H1 over the T3 because of the body shape and top lcd. Sooooo nice

I would stick with olympus ,it does what I require the weight is right taking into account my age and health and i.q is more than adequate

M43: GX80 + Leica 15mm F1.7 + Leica 45mm F2.8 + Lumix 45-150 ....

traveling light.

Recently sold all my Canon gear and have bought a Sony A6400, Sony 70-350 and Sony 10-18. Will probably add a Sony 35mm f1.8 at some point as well.

It all weighs less than just the bag that used to hold all my Canon gear. Happy days.

With the change from my Canon gear I also managed to purchase a nice electric bike as well which I love.

I don't know if it's just because new gear has got so expensive or I've just become less and less grounded on spending the deeper I've got into the photography hobby but these days, £2k doesn't seem to buy you that much, at least not in terms of newer gear. But it does buy plenty of very good older gear. I'd probably opt a Nikon D750, a 24-70 2.8 and a 70-200 2.8. Ideally I'd have enough change left over for a 50mm prime or a samyang 14mm, Could cover a lot of bases with that kind of set up and never be disappointed with the output.
