hi out there,I am looking to buy a dslr ,I had a 35mm twenty years ago .a couple of years ago I bought a bridge model but it has left me dissapointed.I have looked at reviews online and magazine artilces but as always left confused .I have been into jessops and held various models I find the canon feels more comfortable in the hand.I have £800 to 1000 to spend and I dont mind buying second hand .I would say my uses will be travel ,wildlife, landscape ,any suggestions ?

Welcome to the forum. Might be better to place the post in Talk Equipment section of the forum. Members will always pop in to give advice :)

Hi Mark, And welcome aboard TP, looking forward to hearing from you and maybe seeing some of your images on the various forums."Enjoy".

you state travel , wildlife and landscape so that helps with lens choices.
for landscape generally an UWA lens , wildlife well the bigger the better but a 300mm should suffice for a good start point. travel well that could cover anything inbetween.
for your budget probably APS-C would be the way to go as even SH FF is going to be pushing you at the limit.
i really dont think you could go far wrong with this

a canon 70D with the excellent 18-135 STM lens. yes its a kit lens but its a step up from the standard, produces excellent quality images and makes a perfect travel lens too.

that would leave enough in the pot to get either the UWA 10-18 IS STM shown here

( i chose HDEW as they are UK based, excellent customer service, give 3 year warranty and probably about the cheapest new in the UK , you may find cheaper for lenses and body secondhand elsewhere such as MPB but buying new gives you that added protection and for a first time camera cant beat opening a brand new box )

if you wanted to make do with the 18-135 for landscapes then for wildlife you could hunt around and maybe find a half decent 70-300 ( the 55-250 IS STM is in budget if you got the kit as you would have around 265 left over and thats around £210 , leaving you a few quid for bag, a small tripod etc ). or maybe look at a 3rd party lens such as this do it all 18-270 tamron
http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/tamron-af-18-270mm-f35--63-di-ii-vc-pzd-canon-2955-p.asp

combined with a 70D body only
http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/canon-eos-70d-camera-body-1348-p.asp

which would bring you up around £785 ( still enough to get the UWA 10-18 ) or something else that suits

Hi Mark and a warm welcome to TP.
Hope you enjoy yourself here :)

I find the canon feels more comfortable in the hand

This is one of the most important things - how does the Camera feel to you, how do the buttons fall for your hands, do you like the menu system etc etc.

hi ,thanks for your response I know what you mean about how the camera feels in your hand ,had a go with a friends nikon 5300 but found the grip small and my thumb was over the buttons, tried a couple of canons in the shop they sit better just got to try the menu -flat batterys

thank for the advice dean.I have looked at to 70D in the shop ,fits well in my hand and the buttons are well positioned,
