Hi all

One of a series of shots with very strange lights / clouds :| any ideas what caused it :)

Looks like dust bunnies to me!

Don't know what the spiral doofa is though!

Were you using a filter on the lens by any chance? Could be a car's rear lights reflecting around the filter/lens etc?

Chris

Hi Chris

No filter was used on the lens and I'm almost positive that no car went any where near! I certainly didn't see or hear one

Hmmm, could it be flare then? Any red lights near by? It looks like you used an ultra-wide angle lens, which are usually more notorious for flare...

It was a wide angle lens (EF16-35) at 16mm I must admit that my first thoughts were car rear lights and flare but it still doesn't seem right to me!

Thanks again
Steve

Aye that certainly looks a bit dodgy, it's not bad though lol looks a bit like an aurora.

What was your aperture and exposure duration?

Starbursts from the light sources make me think you were stopped up but quantity of stars suggest otherwise.

Looks like someone's stood just out of frame camera right and motioned their hand just within the comp. Do all the frames feature the same foreign element in the same place?

Definitely Aliens........were you smoking at the time ?

 actually that is very possibly the answer (smoking) although I prefer the Aliens idea :D

No they don't .... Jeez! I knew smoking was bad for my health but never realised it could affect my photography  I guess these two explanations really do explain it  Makes a change from Chinese lantern though ... ;)

Thanks again

Steve

It's a warp drive trail. Or lots of Chinese lanterns in close formation. But you seem to have captured the Big Dipper constellation nicely.

Its the thermal signature of the Black Helicopters!

They *are* coming for you, you do know that? :D

I've seen these before and although not common they do effect these type of exposures.

They are ICTR's (Inter Continuim Thought Rings) they capture and send your thoughts back to thought capturing motherships in orbit, I normally wear tin foil under my benie to counteract this.

If you find like me you need to cover your whole house in tinfoil, I'd suggest Poundland for good deals as it gets quite expensive :)

Just moisture or dust in the air i would imagine.

It scatters the light and refract it (is that the right term?) and it is the red component of the light that reaches you first, it's the same cause for red skys in sunrises and sunsets.

Maybe even at night during a long exposure there is enough light to cause the same effect?

Or i could be talking rubbish.

EDIT: Or aliens.

Seriously, i think that is what it could be.
It is very similar, just on a smaller scale to this shot i took a while ago of some light cloud cover.
